March Madness hits us Herbies in a different way than the hoops crowd. We are all itching to get our fingers in the dirt. And we celebrate by having our March meeting at Shady Acres Herb Farm in Chaska, MN. This year, the International Herb Association had designated Peppers, Capsicum as Herb of the Year for 2016, so Theresa entertained us while making Vegetarian Chili, full of what else, but peppers. We always eat well at our events, with an interesting and delicious array of foods. Finally a few souls trudged down to the Greenhouse to get our green fix.
The MN Herb Society (formerly the Twin City Herb Society) was founded by Helen Olsen in 1963 to encourage the study, growing, & use of herbs. We are involved & committed to the MN Landscape Arboretum, maintaining the Kitchen Herb Garden, the Fragrant Herb Garden and the Knot Garden. We continue to be a group of Herb Enthusiasts that are well known, active, forward looking, fun loving, & interested in bringing our knowledge of herbs to the public.

A Taste of What's to Come
A planted a few Calendula seeds on Leap Day. I couldn't help myself. The zinnia seeds from which these butterfly magnets bloomed were set in the soil last March. I'm always amazed that those little seeds produce such an abundance of flowers and of butterflies.
